As the days become shorter, the evenings draw in and there’s a definite chill in the air, our homes naturally become somewhere we want to retreat to.

Autumn is the season for creating warmth, comfort and cosiness and while we often think about changing cushions, adding throws or introducing richer colours, one of the biggest transformations you can make to a room is at the windows.
Beautifully designed bespoke curtains and blinds don’t just complete the look of a space. They can add warmth, improve privacy, soften a room and help create that cosy, welcoming feeling we all crave at this time of year.
Just as we start adding layers to our wardrobes, autumn is the perfect time to think about layering within our interiors.
Combining curtains with blinds or voiles can add depth and texture to a window while also giving you greater control over light and privacy.
During the day, a voile can soften natural light while still allowing it to filter into the room. As evening arrives, closing beautifully lined curtains instantly changes the atmosphere, making a room feel warmer, softer and more cocooning.
And, of course, layering gives you even more opportunities to play with fabrics, textures, trims and finishes.
Bespoke window dressings are certainly about creating something beautiful, but there’s a practical side too particularly as temperatures start to drop.
Windows can be an area where heat is lost from the home, so choosing well-made, properly fitted curtains and blinds can provide an additional layer between your room and the glass.
Options such as interlined curtains and blinds can help create a fuller, more luxurious finish while providing an extra layer of insulation.
Because bespoke window treatments are made specifically for each individual window, consideration can also be given to the fit, lining, fabric and style to create the right solution for both the room and the way you use it.

Autumn lends itself beautifully to interiors.
Warm neutrals, earthy greens, burnt oranges, deep reds, rich browns and touches of ochre or mustard can all bring a seasonal warmth to a room without it necessarily feeling overly ‘autumnal’.
Texture can be just as important as colour. Velvets, linens, wools and tactile weaves can completely change the feel of a space.
But you don’t need to redecorate an entire room to make an impact.
A carefully chosen trim on a Roman blind, a contrasting border, an elegant curtain heading or simply introducing a fabric with more texture can be enough to give an existing scheme a completely different feel.
It’s often those smaller details that make something truly bespoke.

One of the joys of choosing made-to-measure curtains and blinds is that there isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution.
Every home and every window is different.
The proportions of the room, how much natural light it receives, privacy, existing furniture and colours, and how you use the space all play a part in choosing the right window treatment.
At Hue House, we work with our clients to find a solution that not only looks beautiful but works beautifully too.
From the initial conversation and fabric choices through to measuring, making and installation, every detail is carefully considered. Our curtains and blinds are handcrafted by our skilled team in our own workshop in the Kent countryside, just outside Westerham.
October is also a good time to start thinking ahead.
Bespoke curtains and blinds take time to create properly. Fabrics need to be chosen, windows measured and every piece carefully made and finished before installation.
So, if you’ve been thinking about transforming a room or updating your window dressings before winter or even getting your home ready for Christmas now is a very good time to start the conversation.

If you’re looking for bespoke curtains, blinds or shading solutions in Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex or London, we’d love to hear about your project.
